Paypal is such a huge and widely used payment service because of its initial association with Ebay and ownership of Ebay thereafter. Many transactions are carried out by Paypal every day yet why are they not able to protect the people who use them day in and day out and why can they not support these same users?
Here are a couple of stories to wet the appetites of those who do not like the service that is Paypal yet find themselves using the service regularly, not out of choice but out of necessity because of its use by practically everyone.
First Story:
A person whom I know purchases a DVD from Ebay and payment made via Paypal. The DVD is purchased from America and is being sent to the UK. After three weeks the person who bought the item contacted the seller to say it had not been received, the seller advised that it should be there soon but if its not received after 45 days to contact them for a refund via their insurance.
45 days pass, the seller doesnt respond to Emails and Paypal advise that 45 days have passed so they will do nothing. They are actually letting this seller defraud customers through their Paypal account and not doing anything about it!
Second Story:
A friend in Bulgaria has money in their Paypal account and cannot transfer this to their card, they ask for my help. I ring Paypal UK customer services who say they cannot help and my friend needs to ring Bulgarian customer services...which there is none, you have to ring the US. I ask how a Paypal customer service advisor is not able to help with a Paypal query...they say because they only serve the UK.
I then say I want to help my friend but cant log into their account as it will be suspended because of me being in the UK and it will look fraudulent (past experience with another BG friend) and guess what, the Paypal advisor tells me to do this anyway!!!!
So what happens next? Well I ask the customer service of the UK, are you based in the UK and they advise...."We are not allowed to disclose that information" I ask "So the UK customer service for Paypal is not allowed to disclose that they are in the UK" (Im slightly bemused at this) , the response I get is "No I cant disclose this". After a short pause I make the statement that the Paypal customer service must not be in the UK if they are not allowed to say they are in the UK.
Anywho I digress.....I have found through my experience and that of others that the customer service of Paypal is worthless and that Paypal are not willing to chase people who are using their service to rip off customers who use their service in the correct way, what type of business is this!
